What happens if you don't answer the door for FedEx? ›

Delivery attempts

If a shipment requires, either an indirect, direct or adult signature, and a delivery attempt is made, but no one is there to sign for the package, the driver will leave a door tag at the recipient's door. If no signature is required, the shipment will be left at the recipient's door.

Your package wasn't left for one of the following reasons: A signature is required. Import duties and taxes need to be collected. The package contains dangerous goods.

Operational delays occur for a variety of reasons; the following are some examples: Incorrect recipient address. Incorrect recipient postal code. Missing address information (including buzzer code or apartment number)

Shipment details are updated once FedEx has received the package. If you already have a tracking number or reference ID but don't see any updates, it means the package is still at the shipper's original location. Once FedEx picks it up, we'll keep you informed until it arrives at your door.

How can I request a redelivery? In most cases, FedEx will attempt to deliver your package three times before returning it to the shipper. In case a courier is unable to leave your package, the courier will try to call you to check your availability and attempt the delivery.

Generally, we make deliveries from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday–Friday, and on Saturday and Sunday for residential deliveries. Residential deliveries may be eligible to be redirected to a nearby FedEx location or participating retail location like Walgreens or Dollar General to be held for pickup for up to 7 days.

Sometimes, employees may accidentally misplace or mishandle packages, leading to them being lost in the system. Additionally, if a package is not properly packaged or labeled by the sender, it may be more prone to getting lost or damaged during transit.

The status “In transit” means your package is moving within the FedEx network and is going to be delivered on the scheduled delivery date if there are no transit or customs delay. You may see "In transit" as your package status for a few days. A package can remain in this status until delivery.

Packages are scanned at various points between pickup and delivery. The frequency of scans varies, and it's not unusual for a shipment to go more than 24 hours without an update while it's on its way to the final destination.

Should I call FedEx if my package is delayed? ›

When a shipment is delayed or there are handling issues, we may not be able to give you an exact delivery time anymore. Delivery times may change based on the type of delay and our ability to resolve it or not. For more information on your shipment, please call FedEx Customer Service.

Can I claim a refund if my delivery was late? If we didn't deliver your package on time, you may be able to request a refund or an adjusted invoice. To submit a claim, simply fill out this form and we'll either process it automatically or be in touch about the next steps.

“No scheduled delivery date at this time” means we don't have a delivery estimate, or we don't have the package yet. You might see this status if your shipment is delayed or there's a handling exception.

To see where your package is, use one of the options below: Visit fedex.com and track your shipment online. Download the FedEx® Mobile App and receive updates about where your package is while you're on the go. Log in to FedEx® Tracking with your user ID and password.

Another possibility is that the package wasn't scanned by the mail carrier when it was dropped off at the buyer's house; or if they did the scan, it didn't register in the system for some technical reason. Either way, the package will have been delivered.

Packages that aren't signed for are returned to the local delivery hub. The delivery driver leaves a paper notice and an online notification to inform you that a delivery attempt was made, and will be re-attempted.

If you know a FedEx package is coming that requires a signature, you can usually just leave a note for the delivery driver given permission to leave the package. The note must reference the tracking number, delivery address, and name and signature of the person signing. Your cell phone number is also a good idea.

Generally, FedEx requires a signature on all deliveries. However, we may be able to leave your package without a signature on the following conditions: - Have a suitable secure location to leave your package. - Your signature on the delivery attempt notice.
