Schwalbe G-One RS Super Race 40 Rolling Resistance Review (2025)

Schwalbe G-One RS Super Race 40 Rolling Resistance Review (1)

The Schwalbe G-One RS, not to be confused with the G-One R, is another new addition to Schwalbe's G-One range of gravel bike tires. Schwalbe promises the RS is the lowest rolling resistance tire in the G-One range, and from the looks of its tread pattern and specifications, it should be.

We already tested the G-One R (read our review) almost a year ago, and the G-One RS is very similar from a construction standpoint as both tires use Schwalbe's fastest ingredients for off-road tires. Both come with the 67 TPI Super Race casing with transparent sidewalls, and their rolling resistance optimized Addix Race compound to provide the lowest possible rolling resistance.

As the one-year-old G-One R didn't live up to its expectations in our tests, our initial expectations of the latest RS version of the G-One weren't all that high. It turns out we were wrong, as the RS version is one of the fastest rolling gravel bike tires out there, with a rolling resistance much lower than the R version.

Together with the G-One RS test, we're also launching our wet grip test for CX and Gravel bike tires to get even more insight into the differences between these tires. Please be aware that the grip test data for off-road tires isn't as clear-cut as on-road tires as the test is still performed on our hard test surface. You can find more information on how the knobby tread affects the grip test in the disclaimer message near the grip test results.

The CX/Gravel section is a multi tire size section, air pressures have been adjusted to the measured casing width.

All numbers are for a single tire at a speed of 29 km/h / 18 mph and a load of 42.5 kg / 94 lbs.

Use the formula: RR (Watts) = CRR * speed (m/s) * load (N) to calculate rolling resistance at a given speed and load.

Finally, we've found a Schwalbe G-One that lives up to its claims and comes with a low rolling resistance. If you've followed our tests for the last couple of years, you probably know that we're not a big fan of the Schwalbe Addix compounds, as the consistency with this compound is hard to find. We're now hoping Schwalbe fixed their compound mixing, and their tires will live up to their expectations.

Although the Schwalbe G-One is fast, we do see some shortcomings in the puncture resistance and hard surface wet grip tests. The relatively low puncture resistance of the tread can be solved somewhat by setting these up tubeless with enough sealant. There is no easy solution to fix the lowish hard surface grip, but that might not be that big of an issue when using these as a rear tire where rolling resistance is more critical combined with a grippier tire on the front wheel.

FAQs

What is the difference between G One RS and R? ›

To get the most out of it, the G-ONE RS has different running directions for use on the front and rear wheels. Compared to the G-ONE R, the RS has 20% less rolling resistance - for maximum speed, Schwalbe's developers have opted for a semi-slick version.

How much difference does tyre rolling resistance make? ›

The higher the rolling resistance is, the more energy to overcome it is needed. Hence a considerable impact of tyre rolling resistance on fuel consumption (and on how long your tyres will last). A 30% increase in rolling resistance generates between 3 and 5% of fuel overconsumption.

Is Schwalbe G One RS tubeless? ›

Souplesse Carcass – The turn-up construction integrates Tubeless Easy technology in the most progressive way possible. This is what makes the tyre so supple and comfortable. Riding this tyre feels just like the velvety motion of a classic tubular tyre.

What is the rolling resistance of bike tires? ›

Rolling resistance is the energy that is lost when the tire is rolling. The main reason for the loss of energy is the constant deformation of the tire. Each bicycle tire should, of course, roll as easily as possible.

Is ONE R battery compatible with one RS? ›

Yes, you can use your ONE R Core and lenses with the ONE RS Battery Base. However, the ONE RS Battery Base is not compatible with the ONE R Mounting Bracket due to its larger size and capacity.

What is the difference between one and one RS? ›

' It is also important to remember that 'one' is used when referring to an individual person or object, and 'ones' is used when referring to multiple items or people.

Is higher or lower rolling resistance better? ›

Low rolling resistance tires can be much more fuel-efficient tire than conventional tires. The U.S. Department of Energy has done research that shows that utilizing low rolling resistance tires can have as much as a 10% fuel savings impact for drivers.

How to tell if a tire is low rolling resistance? ›

Tires with low rolling resistance (LRR) often feature thinner sidewalls, shallower tread blocks and specialized rubber compounds.

Does higher tire pressure reduce rolling resistance? ›

Tire pressure, tire diameter, tire width, tire construction, tire tread and other factors all have an effect on rolling resistance. On a completely smooth surface the following applies: The higher the inflation pressure, the inferior the tire deformation and thus rolling resistance.

Are tubeless bike tires slower? ›

When you use inner tubes, you get friction between the inner tube and the tire's casing, creating rolling resistance. You don't get this when using a tubeless system, so you eliminate a decent amount of rolling resistance, making you faster.

Do tubeless bike tires need special rims? ›

Do I need special tyres and rims to go tubeless? For the best and safest results, tubeless requires both tyres and rims designed specifically for the job. Tubeless tyres have stretch-resistant beads to prevent blow-off under pressure and casings that are sealed to prevent air loss.

Do wider tires reduce rolling resistance? ›

The greater surface area of contact will increase grip. Yes, it will also reduce rolling friction, but it will increase sliding friction.

What is the average rolling resistance of a bike? ›

In general, rolling resistance with a road tire (23 to 28mm wide) is at a minimum somewhere in the range of 80 to 120 psi (about 6 to 8 bars) on most roads, with most tires, for people of most weights, but it's very hard to say what is the ideal pressure.

How to reduce bike rolling resistance? ›

Tubeless: Tubeless tires eliminate the inner tube, reducing weight and minimizing the risk of punctures. Additionally, tubeless tires eliminate the friction between the inner tube and the tire, resulting in lower rolling resistance.

What is the difference between Insta360 one r and one rs? ›

As you're probably aware, ONE RS and ONE R both have a unique interchangeable lens system, whereby multiple lenses can be swapped in and out on the same device. Essentially, the perfect camera for every situation. It is with the lenses that we find our first big difference: the new 4K Boost Lens.

What is the difference between G and R? ›

G is the universal gravitational constant measured in Nm2/kg2. R is the radius of the massive body measured in km.

What is the difference between R and R in gravitation? ›

R and r represent two different quantities in the universal law of gravitation. R represents the distance between the centers of mass of two objects, while r represents the distance between the two objects' individual masses.

What is the difference between Yamaha R1 and R3? ›

Yamaha YZF R3 (25 kmpl) has a better mileage than Yamaha YZF R1 (15 kmpl). Q: Which bike is heavier Yamaha YZF R1 or Yamaha YZF R3? Yamaha YZF R1 is heavier (200 kg) than Yamaha YZF R3 (169 kg).
